The result is smaller, lighter chest that is in a healthier proportion to the rest of the man's body.
Like all plastic and cosmetic surgery, the final outcome of breast reduction surgery varies from one patient to the next. For some, comfort is the priority, while others' focus on aesthetics. In any case, Dr. Brady addresses the proportion and appearance of chest.
Dr Brady begins with a conversation and examination, in an effort to understand your needs and desires. Enlarged breasts can cause a variety of discomfort and physical problems. After exploring the physical, the conversation turns to aesthetic ambitions. Dr Brady takes the entire spectrum of these complexities under advisement before making any recommendations.
- Each procedure is unique to the individual, based on body anatomy and desired results.
- Breast reduction leads to greater comfort, healthier posture, as well as a more balanced shape and appearance.
- During the breast reduction procedure an incision is made from the new location of the nipple down to and around the crease beneath the breast. The surgeon removes excess glandular tissue, fat, and skin, relocates the nipple and areola, and reshapes the breast using skin from around the areola before closing the incisions with stitches. Liposuction may be needed to remove excess fat from the armpit area, and in cases when only fat needs to be removed from the breasts, liposuction alone is used for breast reduction.
- The procedure lasts three to four hours and is typically performed under general anesthesia.
RECOVERY / POST-OPERATIVE
Some pain is normal after breast reduction; it could include mild discomfort, swelling, a measure of numbness or sensitivity, or random, shooting pains that may last for a few months. Swelling, bruising, crusting and slight changes in breast size are also common. Most patients return to work in about two weeks, although you should avoid heavy lifting for three to four and only gentle contact with the breasts should occur for six weeks. Scars fade with time but will not disappear, although they can be hidden with a bra, bathing suit or low-cut top. However, our lasers are top-of-the-line, and will provide the most minimal scarring possible.
